Ever since I was a child, I dreamt of being a gameshow host. No, seriously. Other kids were playing spots. I was creating quiz shows and trying to turn my little brother into a center square.

I was captivated by the charismatic figures that graced the television screens, such as Bob Barker, Dick Clark, and John Davidson. They inspired me with their wit, charm, and ability to effortlessly entertain millions of viewers. In particular, the presence of John Davidson and the iconic show “Hollywood Squares” left an indelible mark on my young mind, fueling my passion for the art of hosting. Today, as I stand under the bright lights of the studio, I can’t help but reflect on how this dream has become my reality.

A Childhood Filled with Inspiration:

As a kid, I would eagerly anticipate the evenings spent watching gameshows with my family. Bob Barker’s legendary tenure on “The Price is Right” taught me the importance of connecting with contestants and engaging the audience. I admired his ability to keep the show lighthearted and fun, creating an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Then there was the iconic Dick Clark, the master of ceremonies on shows like “American Bandstand” and “The $10,000 Pyramid.” His smooth charisma and quick wit showcased the true artistry of hosting. Clark’s ability to effortlessly guide contestants and keep the show moving forward with his infectious enthusiasm left me in awe.

The Influence of John Davidson:

However, it was John Davidson who truly stole my attention with his role as the host of “Hollywood Squares.” The show’s unique format, combining celebrity guests, comedy, and trivia, fascinated me. Davidson’s confident and affable presence perfectly complemented the show’s playful nature.

I vividly remember how Davidson interacted with the celebrity panelists, effortlessly blending humor and intelligence to create an entertaining and engaging experience. His knack for drawing out witty responses from the stars and managing the unpredictable nature of live television enthralled me. Watching him in action, I knew deep in my heart that I wanted to follow in his footsteps and bring joy to others through the magic of hosting.

The Journey to Becoming a Gameshow Host:

My journey towards becoming a gameshow host was not without its challenges. I immersed myself in the world of entertainment, studying various hosting styles, honing my own skills, and gaining experience in different aspects of the industry. I started by hosting small-scale events, local programs, and even internet-based shows. Each opportunity allowed me to fine-tune my craft and develop my unique hosting persona. If you’ve seen any of the Gameshow Nights that I have hosted you know how fun and exciting they are!

Along the way, I encountered setbacks and moments of self-doubt. However, the memories of those gameshow hosts who had inspired me kept me going. I persisted, never losing sight of my childhood dream, fueled by the desire to create memorable experiences for audiences, just as Barker, Clark, and Davidson had done for me.

Living the Dream:

Today, I find myself standing in the spotlight as a gameshow host from time to time, living my childhood dream. So, when I was able to have John Davidson as an in studio guest….well….type that up to another great moment! While I may not be a household name like the legends who inspired me, I am grateful for the chance to bring joy, laughter, and excitement to the lives of those who tune in.

As I host my own gameshow, I strive to channel the charm of Bob Barker, the charisma of Dick Clark, and the wit of John Davidson. Every day, I embrace the challenge of connecting with contestants, engaging the audience, and creating an atmosphere that evokes fond memories of the shows that shaped me.

Having John Davidson in studio as a guest on my show was a highlight of my broadcasting career….and he did give me some advice and great perspective.
